Ruger security 9 problems

I recently bought my wife a Ruger Security-9 for protection. When I first inspected it, I found it was really hard to get the slide stop to set, but was told it would loosen up with firing, and slingshot worked fine. After about 300 rounds, it's easier to set the slide stop. But the problem is the slide "locks out" on last round.

Took the bolt out of the receiver and polished all surfaces on it that touch any other metal during cycling. Second range trip was better but stove pipes still happened.Another Security 9 went for repairs before ever being fired. It had problems with the slide stop. If the slide was racked with an empty magazine, the magazine then dropped out, the slide would be stuck and would not move forward until between 3 and 14 tries were made.
